The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a high-level committee to reassess the notified area of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), which currently spans from Gautam Budh Nagar to Agra, covering nearly 1,150 villages.
This crucial step comes after officials observed that a large portion of the notified region has remained untouched by urban development, and it could take several decades for planned development to reach the outermost villages.
Why the Review Was Needed
A notified area is a region officially designated for planned and structured development.
However, YEIDA’s vast land area—82,000 hectares—has proven difficult to develop within a reasonable timeframe.
YEIDA CEO R.K. Singh explained the challenge with a comparison:
“Noida took almost 50 years to develop 20,000 hectares. One can imagine how long it would take to develop 82,000 hectares. This is why resizing the development zone is essential before it becomes unmanageable.”
What the Committee Will Evaluate
According to officials, the newly formed panel will examine whether the number of villages under YEIDA should be:
🔹 Reduced from 1,150 villages to around 300
The remaining villages may be managed through:
-
District-level administrations
-
Road-based development plans
-
Localized governance structures
This would allow YEIDA to focus on a more manageable development zone, ensuring faster, more practical urban growth.
Expected Benefits of the Review
✔ Faster urbanization in key priority zones
✔ Reduced administrative load on YEIDA
✔ Practical master planning instead of overstretched development
✔ Better allocation of infrastructure funds
✔ Balanced development between urban and rural regions
By resizing the notified area, YEIDA aims to create a realistic and efficient master plan that matches the pace of actual urban growth.
What Happens Next?
The committee will:
-
Review existing development progress
-
Assess future urbanization potential
-
Recommend resizing of boundaries
-
Suggest governance models for excluded villages
Once the evaluation is complete, the government may officially restructure YEIDA’s development zone.
